First The Washington Post, Now the Huffington Post…

And so it begins…

In a review that couldn’t wait for the official pub date, The Washington Post calls Jim Shepard’s THE BOOK OF ARON a “masterpiece,” “essential Holocaust literature,” and says it “challenges each of us to greater courage.”  http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/books/the-book-of-aron-by-jim-shepard-is-a-masterpiece/2015/04/28/0a159fe6-ea98-11e4-9a6a-c1ab95a0600b_story.html

CANCELED!

Due to the storm of the century, my event at the New York Historical Society has been canceled.  Stay warm!

Gearing up for the New York Historical Society

A taste of what we’ll be chatting about at the NY Historical Society on January 28th.

Behind the scenes trivia:  I grew up around the corner from the Historical Society.

First Love

My essay on my daughter’s first break-up, appearing in the February issue of Good Housekeeping.

“Loser,” her brother said when he heard the boy had broken up with his sister by email.  “Loser,” her brother said when he heard the boy had sent my daughter’s best friend over to do his dirty work for him.

“Well,” my husband said.  “He is eleven.”

“And a boy,” I added.

Future boyfriends, beware.  We’ve got her back.  And, we’re writers…

Updates

Some recent, nice bits of news to start my summer off:

The Celestials is shortlisted for the William Saroyan International Prize for writing.  http://library.stanford.edu/news/2014/05/press-release-william-saroyan-international-prize-writing-2014-shortlist

The Celestials is chosen to be part of the Common Reader Project at Berkshire Community College in the fall of 2014.

My essay, “Now What Do We Do,” about my 11-year-old daughter’s first break-up will be published by Good Housekeeping in fall of 2014.  The editor who bought it was the editor of my first novel.

Jim’s new novel, The Book of Aron (coming in May 2015) has sold in ten countries and counting.  Brazil was first, Israel is the most recent.

Lucy Shepard, aforementioned 11-year-old, was chosen as one of three sixth grade graduation speakers.  Her speech revisits the eight years of elementary school through the lens of Finding Nemo.  Of course it does.
